The ANODE ROD is one of the leading causes of Odor and Discoloration only in the Hot Water. Most Water Heaters are manufactured with a Magnesium Anode Rod which doesn’t agree with Well Water. In Fact, as the Well Water flows through the Water Heater, it causes the Anode Rod to deteriorate. Once the Anode Rod begin to deteriorate, the Hot Water becomes fouled whereas the Cold Water would remain perfectly fine. The Water Heater is the only thing that separates the Hot and Cold Water. Please see the picture below of the culprit. We recommend removing the Anode Rod and or replace it with one that’s made of Aluminum or Zinc.
